about us

As a local Johannesburg boy, Craig studied at Wits University and at top IT training company, Van Zyl and Pritchard, where he came in the top 2% of his year. This was followed up with a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer course (MCSE). Craig worked as a software programmer at Universal Computer Systems (UCS) thereafter moving into infrastructure at Joburg based IT company, PCB.

At the turn of the millennium, Craig moved to London and over the next decade, he went from engineer to Director of IT, working at various multinational, telecoms and educational companies.

Tired of the London life and looking for a new adventure, he and his wife came back to South Africa. At that time, a friend with a stagnant IT business asked Craig to help, so he came on board. They did great things together and the business was growing, but having put his aspirations aside, Craig still yearned for his own company.

When they decided to go their separate ways, Craig had re-learnt the local market and in May 2011, from his kitchen table at home, started Shermanit.

He had an initial client base – all of whom are still with him today ―and this continued to grow, entirely by word of mouth. Along the way, Craig absorbed two more businesses and Shermanit grew slowly and steadily. Today, most of the company’s long list of clients work in the security, construction, finance, retail, mining and healthcare industries.

Since 2011, the company has grown from a one-man operation to a staff complement of 13+ people and is still expanding. In January 2020 they bought their own offices in the sought-after Woodmead business area. The dedicated Shermanit team prides itself on their extensive IT knowledge and expertise, personal service and a “getting-the-job-done” mentality.

When asked as to what the secret of their success is, Craig says:
“Honesty and transparency; fairness with customers, suppliers and staff; hard work; forging long term relationships; good fortune; and an amazing team.”
